In cases of conflicting information, the policy signed between the insurance broker and the COC takes precedence over text given here.

The COC has arranged for a Group Liability Insurance Policy which covers societies in all provinces with exception of Yukon, NWT, New Brunswick, P.E.I. and Newfoundland. The policy covers all shows, meetings and any society sponsored activity, such as greenhouse tours.

The insurance would be held by the COC and will be available to any society in good standing. The premiums from each society would also be collected by the COC.

Note: COC Insurance excludes the following:

Any injury or property damage arising from
abuse meaning any act, threat or allegation involving molestation, harassment, corporal punishment, assault, battery or any other form of physical, sexual, emotional, psychological or mental abuse.
any virus, bacteria, disease or contagion.

The coverage per insured society is:

Commercial General Liability

each occurrence: $2,000,000

Tenants Legal Liability

any one premises: $250,000 with $1000 deductible

Medical Expense

any one person: $1,000

Aggregate Limit

Products/Completed Operations Hazard: $2,000,000

Bodily Injury/Property Damage and Legal Expenses

with $1000 deductible

Errors & Omissions Liability (Directors & Officers / Wrongful Acts)

$1,000,000 with $1000 Deductible

Non-owned Automobile Liability

$2,000,000

Additional Coverage Information

At a show or a meeting the host society’s insurance would cover any liability.

When travelling to shows or other society activities, if the driver is using their own vehicle, their own insurance covers them; but if they are travelling in a rental vehicle, the COC insurance provides liability coverage up to two million dollars (with a $1000 deductible). Damage to a rental vehicle is not covered. Bus trips require an additional rider (see below).

Additional Coverage

Any of the societies holding an event where alcohol is consumed, such as a Wine and Cheese event, must apply for additional coverage. Additional coverage is also available for libraries, possessions and additional liability such as for bus trips. Each society should advise the insurance administrator (Treasurer) of the location, date and expected attendance at the event, the value of the possessions and location of storage, or the required additional liability. The cost of the additional coverage is determined by the Insurance Agent. This additional fee should be paid by the individual society to the COC. This fee will be forwarded to the Insurance Agent. This coverage can be obtained at any time without penalty.
