Other Information: Dr. Heiko Hentrich is a tropical botanist with special interest in pollination biology. He studied Biology in Ulm, Germany, and Costa Rica. During a visit to the Munich Botanical Gardens in 1999 he took part in a tour of Dr. Günter Gerlach and was so fascinated by the stories about the pollination of „perfume orchids“ that he decided to study them himself. In 2001, he worked in the Jardín Botánico Lankester, Costa Rica, with
Franco Pupulin, who proposed to make the pollination of a Gongora population in Costa Rica topic of his diploma thesis, which was realized in 2003. In 2004 he continued studying pollination by euglossine bees in French Guiana for his PhD thesis. Here, the focus was on euglossine-pollinated Araceae and nectar flowers of the bees. After his dissertation, 2009, he worked as Botany lecturer at the University of Koblenz-Landau, Germany, and had several guest lectures at the Universidad Juárez Autónoma de Tabasco and the Universidad Veracruzana in Mexico. Between 2014 and 2015, he was curator of the Jany Renz orchid collection of the Swiss Orchid Foundation at the University of Basel (publisher of the journal Renziana and the World Orchid Iconography). Currently, he is working for the German Homeopathic Union (DHU) and the Dr. Willmar Schwabe GmbH & Co. KG as head of the medicinal plant cultivation and the pharmacognosy laboratory. In his free time, he is still publishing scientific papers, giving talks and travelling to the tropics.
